Veteran journalist Jon Chown took over the reins of the Press-Banner on Monday, May 19 as the publication’s new editor and general manager.

Construction is rolling at the site of the future Boys and Girls Club of the Valleys, as crews have been working for months to renovate the former recreational vehicle dealership building into a modern facility for the youth of Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley.

The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the contract for the district’s new superintendent Wednesday night and Dr. Laurie Bruton is scheduled to begin her new job leading SLV schools on July 1.

With little more than a month to go before the Saturday, June 28 opening of the fifth annual Hop ‘N Barley Beer and BBQ Festival in Scotts Valley, the event’s organizers are reaching out to local home brewers to participate in the competition for the Inaugural Beer Masters Cup.

“We are a second generation Faire. I grew up loving the Faire,” says Violet Smith, Director of the 2014 Redwood Mountain Faire. “I wanted to make it like it was when I was a girl and continue to make memories for others.”
