Dinner to honor vets

Voters in Scotts Valley overwhelmingly voted Tuesday to approve Measure U, a temporary sales tax meant to preserve city services against the backdrop of a bleak budgetary crisis.

A 350-acre prescribed burn in Big Basin Redwoods State Park will begin Tuesday, Nov. 5 and may continue for the next two weeks if conditions allow.

Boulder Creek resident Pat Jocius is dying from cancer. Breast cancer discovered six years ago moved into her shoulder three years later, before attacking her ribs, lungs and brain. Barring a miracle, Jocius, 63, has come to the understanding that she will die when the cancer shuts down a vital organ — a matter of when, not if.
