On Wednesday, Oct. 23, several dozen people gathered at the meeting rooms of the Simpkins Family Swim Center in Santa Cruz to witness the presentation of the biannual findings of the 2013 Homeless Census and Survey.

An overturned logging truck spilled eight massive redwood logs onto Mount Hermon Road, closing part of the intersection of Graham Hill Road and Mount Hermon Road in Felton.

The topic of homelessness in Felton is not exactly a new one, but in the past several months, it has become something of a hot topic as local community groups and organizations have made a priority of addressing the environmental and societal concerns associated with homelessness and homeless encampments.

For Dr. David Glass, Felton was the perfect place to transition from childhood to adulthood and, in his recently published book “Felton was so Fine,” he chronicles the history, culture and significant people that made his teenage years unique to San Lorenzo Valley.
