Mary Ernestine Short April 16, 1917 — Nov. 19, 2012

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, in Felton for Mary Short, the mother of Felton woodworker Cliff Short. She was 95 when she died.

Light up the valley contest to be judged

Judging for the annual Light up the Valley decorating contest will take place Wednesday, Dec. 19, and Thursday, Dec. 20, in the San Lorenzo Valley, so entries must be submitted before those dates to be judged.

A memorial fund has been set up for Marilyn Izor, a Poway resident with strong ties to Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center, who died Nov. 10 after a brief illness.

McGuffick, Sargent united in marriage

Marlee McGuffick and Nathan Sargent, who met at San Lorenzo Valley Middle School, were married Sept. 30 at Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton.

Science lab dedicated at Bonny Doon Elementary

About 50 parents, students, school officials and community members gathered at Bonny Doon Elementary School on Dec. 6 for a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the school’s new science classroom.

An antique bell, cast by a blacksmith in 1901, hangs in the bell tower high above St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Scotts Valley. But the bell is far older than the church, which celebrated its 25th anniversary Nov. 3.
