As the last days of summer approach, students, teachers and administrators in Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley are hard at work preparing for the upcoming academic year. Below is an update of what changes have been made on various school campuses since students vacated them in June.

A hearing in Santa Cruz Superior Court is set for Friday, Aug. 3, for a 20-year-old transient who was arrested in Felton last week for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

For the 13th year in a row, the Scotts Valley Art and Wine Festival will act as a showcase for the city’s local artists, vintners, craftspeople, brewers and chefs at Skypark.

A memorial service was held this week for lifelong Felton resident Steven Dennis, who died unexpectedly this month in Santa Cruz. He was 57.

In the 31 years since Dr. Tony Giannotti began practicing optometry in Scotts Valley, his practice has grown and expanded along with the city, so much so that his office of 26 years is no longer enough.
