Irene Sylvia Rathe April 13, 1926 — November 23, 2010

Longtime Mount Hermon resident Irene Puolakka Johnson Rathe died of congestive heart failure Nov. 23, surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life is planned this weekend in Felton.

Hinde hangs on for election win

In a tight race, Scotts Valley chiropractor Aaron Hinde, a Bonny Doon resident, retained his seat on the Santa Cruz County Board of Education in Trustee Area 1 by a narrow margin over challenger George Martinez.

Longtime Ben Lomond resident Donnaclaire Ryan died Nov. 21 at Feather River Hospital in Paradise. She was 78.

Deputy praised in inmate escape incident
