Pacific Gas and Electric Co.’s crusade to place SmartMeter devices at all California homes and businesses has been met with complaints of inaccurate billing issues and health risks across the state.

Traveling man proclaims “harbinger rock”

A man visiting the San Lorenzo Valley on a 10-year journey says he has a rock that tells the future.

Rev. Don W. Munro, Jr. – May 21, 1935 – November 30, 2015

The Rev. Don W. Munro, Jr. died on November 30, 2015 in Santa Cruz. A two-year resident of ScottsValley, he moved to ScottsValley after 48 years of living in Ben Lomond. He was pastor of Felton Presbyterian Church from 1965-85, building that church over two decades into an important community institution. Known for his gentle wit, caring manner, crisp intellect, voracious curiosity and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, he made a difference in the lives of thousands of parishioners, hundreds of couples he married over the years and countless residents of his beloved San LorenzoValley.

In Memoriam: Captain Peder McElroy

 It is with a heavy heart, that we are greatly saddened by the unexpected passing of Captain Peder McElroy. Captain McElroy was 48 years old when he passed away suddenly Saturday night. Captain McElroy has been with the Branciforte Fire Protection District for 22 years. He was a proven leader, selfless firefighter and EMT who worked diligently to serve our community. His positive influence will forever be felt throughout the Branciforte Fire Protection District and beyond. Additionally, he was a devoted and loving father, son and husband. He leaves behind a wife and four children. We ask that you keep the McElroy family in your thoughts and prayers. He will be missed. Further information regarding a service will be released as it comes available. Rest easy Captain Peder McElroy, we will take it from here. 

Scotts Valley Christmas tree lighting Saturday

Christmas caroling, choir performances and hot chocolate, along with a visit from Santa, will all be part of Scotts Valley’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festival at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road.

SLV water manager joins the fray

When Brian Lee was hired in January 2015 as manager of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District, his new bosses included three newly elected directors. The district was off to a fresh start, after a controversial rate increase, an unflattering Grand Jury report and the firing of its district manager.

Mexican restaurant replaces KFC

Closed since November 2011, the doors of the former KFC at 95 Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley opened to hungry customers once again on Monday, Aug. 20 as Salsa’s Taco Bar.
