Gas leak detected in Ben Lomond

Construction workers struck a high-pressure natural gas line while sinking fence posts along the driveway of the house on the corner of Quail Hollow Road and Marion Avenue in Ben Lomond. The gas leak was pinpointed at the spot between the nose of a passing school bus and the mailbox at the end of the driveway in the photograph above. The Zayante Fire Department responded, at first turning traffic away, but then allowing it to pass after limiting gas flow as much as they could while waiting for Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

Historic Octagon Building top comes off

The roof of the historic Octagon Building on Scotts Valley Drive was removed last week and will be stored until it can be reconstructed as a museum by the Scotts Valley Historical Society.
