Elaine (Crittendon) Skloot, 77, mother-in-law of Ben Lomond resident Diana Rudrow, died in Fremont on March 2. A private celebration of life is planned for Saturday, March 16, at Elliston Vineyards in Sunol. Leaders of the campaign to build new athletic fields at Scotts Valley High School are asking the Scotts Valley Unified School District to co-sign a loan up to $4 million to allow construction of new track and stadium to begin this summer at Scotts Valley High School.

At the last Scotts Valley City Council meeting on Jan. 23, council members discussed at length one of their most important goals for the new year — engaging and informing the community about the city’s dire fiscal outlook, and what needs to done to avoid a “fiscal cliff” that is clearly on the horizon.

The governor proclaimed a retroactive state of emergency in Santa Cruz County in response to severe October storms that caused mudslides, flooding and road damage totaling about $1 million.
