FELTON — San Lorenzo Valley High has been transformed into the School of Rock for Friday night’s grad night with two shiny, 30-foot-tall guitars standing sentry to the entrance to the event.

With last week's arrival of hot, summerlike weather, the time has come to think about how to stay cool during the summer months. But, as is often the case, frequent usage of devices such as fans and air conditioning systems draws massive amounts of energy — which is as harmful to the environment as it is to the bank account.

Construction is rolling at the site of the future Boys and Girls Club of the Valleys, as crews have been working for months to renovate the former recreational vehicle dealership building into a modern facility for the youth of Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley.

The Scotts Valley Public Library recently launched an all-new art display featuring professional artists who have captured the beauty of California in their paintings.

The work on the newly renovated facility of the new Boys and Girls Club of the Valleys wrapped up several weeks ago, but the sparkling new building sits empty — its brand-new kitchen unused, dust gathering on the donated game tables as no children’s shouts fill its colorful walls.
