North County Dems to host farmworker justice advocate

The Democratic Club of North Santa Cruz County will welcome Elizabeth Strater, Director of Strategic Campaigns at United Farm Workers (UFW), for its monthly meeting on April 6.

Strater will discuss UFW digital campaigns and how people can support justice for farmworkers. She will discuss her work to protect the health and safety of farmworkers and to advocate for a safe and just food supply.

Members of the public are invited to attend. Visit svslvdemocrats.org for a Zoom meeting link. Social time starts at 6pm and club meetings begin at 6:30pm.

‘Town Sweep’ coming April 10

The Boulder Creek Business Association (BCBA) is hosting a “Town Sweep” on April 10 from 8am to noon.

The sweep aims to help clean up downtown. The BCBA will have some tools available, and participants are welcomed to bring their own. BCBA will be raking, picking weeds and doing general maintenance in the downtown area. No power tools needed. This is a “dry sweep,” meaning no power washers, hoses and other similar equipment.

BCBA skipped both sweeps last year due to Covid-19 and the CZU Lightning Complex fires. The organization will have coffee, individually-packaged snacks, ice cream and food vouchers. They will also provide work credit slips for local students.

Remember general Covid-19 safety precautions: wear a mask and follow social distancing protocols when working downtown.
