Obituary: Carl Edward Glahn

Carl Edward Glahn

A date has not yet been set for a celebration of life to for longtime Boulder Creek resident Carl Edward Glahn who died in Santa Cruz earlier this month. He was 62.
Born in Oakland, Mr. Glahn grew up in San Lorenzo and attended Arroyo High School and California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, where he graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. Shortly after, he served with the Peace Corps and spent three years in Zaire, Africa.
In addition to learning to speak French, he maintained the motor pool and set up a rural operating room. After returning, Mr. Glahn joined his older brother Paul as diesel repair shop owners in the Central Valley.
He moved to Boulder Creek in 1983 and joined Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale. In three decades there, he earned a reputation as a brilliant senior staff design and systems engineer.
In his spare time, Mr. Glahn loved to work on cars and motorcycles to remodel his home and grounds, tinker in the garage and help neighbors. He helped lead his three sons to the rank of Eagle Scout, as Boulder Creek’s Troop 623 Assistant Scoutmaster. He was known for his dry sense of humor and many stories.
Mr. Glahn is survived by his wife, Heather Glahn of Boulder Creek, children Edward (Ned), Carl (Walt), Brian and Julianne Glahn of Boulder Creek; brother Paul (Lola) Glahn, sister Audrey (Andy) Poulo and brothers-in-law Walter Rockholt and Kerry Carmody; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Roskie and George Glahn and his oldest brother George Glahn.
