Col. William Howard Hardwick (USAF ret.)

A memorial service will be held February 4 in Scotts Valley for William H. Hardwick who died this month. He was 87.
Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Hardwick attended Twin Falls High School in Idaho his junior and senior years and enlisted in the Army Air Corps following graduation in 1945. He later attended Oklahoma State University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. He remained active in the Air Force reserves, attaining the rank of colonel, and was stationed in McClellan AFB in California. Mr. Hardwick’s career of more than 30 years in land development and architecture began in Missouri working as a developer with Frisco Railroad and continued with H.K. Ferguson Co. in San Francisco, Stanford University in Palo Alto and retired in 1995 with Southern Pacific Railroad.
A longtime resident of Belmont, he served as Mayor of Belmont for multiple terms and as a city council member for 19 years. Mr. Hardwick was past president of the San Mateo County Fair Board. He attended Central Peninsula Bible Church and served as elder for San Mateo Presbyterian Church.
Upon moving to Scotts Valley 16 years ago with his wife of 63 years, Noma, he attended both Santa Cruz Bible Church and Felton Bible Church. He was proud of his memberships in both SIRS and the Masonic Lodge.
Family said Mr. Hardwick enjoyed spending time with his family, making friends and playing games. He always had a smile on his face and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a great role model and example to his family and friends of what a Christian man should be. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Noma Hardwick of Aptos; children David Hardwick of Sonoma; Kent Hardwick and his wife Donna of Scotts Valley and Chris Hardwick and his wife Jennifer of Scotts Valley; five grandchildren and many friends at Paradise Park in Felton and Spring Lakes Mobile Home Community in Scotts Valley.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Spring Lakes Clubhouse, 225 Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley
