February 11, 1964 to February 11, 2015
Lifelong Ben Lomond resident Dorene Stier, affectionately known as “Dori,” passed away at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 11, on her 51st birthday.
Dori attended local grammar school and was a graduate of San Lorenzo Valley High School’s Class of 1982.
She was a drum major, and played saxophone in the school band and the community band well into her adult years. Dori loved animals, especially her horse “Sox” that she rode all over Ben Lomond.
Dori was a dedicated provider and devoted mother to her three children. She was an active volunteer as a 4-H Mom, and was involved in all of her children’s studies and endeavors.
At the time of her passing, Dori co-owned Riverview Farms Catering with her daughter, Carlyn, and was a talented cook and knowledgeable organic gardener. She was a much-loved member of the Ben Lomond Fellowship.
Dori leaves behind her three children: Carlyn Kay Whitaker, Bryan James Whitaker, and Morgan Bradley Stier, all of Ben Lomond.
She is also survived by her birth parents Cathee and Robert Poulsen of Lake Placid, Fla., and the love of her life, Jon Moser. She precedes four sisters: Dana Coates and Texas Poulsen Stready; Christina Thorpe and Ann Rosnov; three brothers, Buddy, Curtis and Jed Poulsen. She is preceded in death by her adopted parents, Donald and Lois Coates of Ben Lomond.
Dori will be remembered for her contagious laugh and generous spirit. While she has passed on to a more glorious place than we can imagine, still we will miss her forever here.
A celebration of her life will be held in her garden at 430 Riverside Avenue on May 31, weather permitting. More details to follow.
