Elizabeth “Betty” Kauffman
July 17, 1917 to Dec. 13, 2013
A memorial service will be held January 18 for Scotts Valley resident Elizabeth “Betty” Kaufman who died in Santa Cruz, five days after taking a fall. She was 96.
Born in Lompoc, the second of four girls, she was the last survivor.
Mrs. Kauffman was known as a strong and independent lady who was very alert in her old age. She enjoyed 96 years, and in later years she lived a quiet and subdued, but happy life, surrounded by good friends and relatives.
Mrs. Kauffman enjoyed Scotts Valley Senior Center activities, her Friday hair day with her friend Kristy and Sunday breakfast or lunch at Molly’s Café where she was well-known for many years.
Mrs. Kauffman worked in clothing stores and she and husband Norm owned and operated a popular and successful men’s clothing store in Redwood City. She also lived in Santa Cruz, Marysville, Salinas and Redwood City.
Norm died in 1995.
She is survived by her step-son Roger Kauffman and his wife Natalie; three nephews and a niece; her best friend (and adopted sister) Beverly York; and numerous great nieces, nephews and step-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by Alice Morrison, Edith Dominguez and Virginia Avelar.
A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz followed by a reception at the Oakwood Reception Hall.
