Kathryn (Kate) Williams

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 for Kate Williams who died at Dominican Hospital following a long struggle with multiple sclerosis.
Mrs. Williams was born and grew up in Berwyn, Ill. In 1961 she moved with her family to Lombard, Ill.
Following her graduation from Northern Illinois University, Mrs. Williams taught third grade for five years at Lincoln Elementary School in Lombard. After her marriage to Paul Williams, she lived for two years in Wausau, Wisc.; 10 years in Hudson, Wisc.; five years in Aptos; and finally, 25 years in Scotts Valley.
While in California Mrs. Williams became a nationally recognized wood carver and actively participated with the Santa Cruz Wood Carvers, the California Carvers Guild and several national organizations and competitions.
She is survived by her husband Paul Williams of Scotts Valley; father Milt Karel of Scotts Valley and her brother, Robert Karel of Sumter, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at St. Philip the Apostle Episcopal Church, 5271 Scotts Valley Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to either the National MS Society at www.nationalmssociety.org or Dominican Hospital, www.dominicanhospital.org in Santa Cruz.
