Scotts Valley resident Ronald James Hinton passed away on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, in Santa Cruz, from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Turlock on March 5, 1935 to John Rudolph and Elsie Edith Hinton, Ron grew up in Hayward, where he graduated from Hayward High School.
He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii and Ford Ord. After serving in the military, Ron went to barber school to become a barber.
He was a Master Barber and owned Ron’s Barber Shop for 50 years, located on Park Ave. in Santa Clara.
Ron was very well-known for his outstanding haircuts and had built a very large and loyal clientele.
Ron was a longtime resident of Scotts Valley. He found joy in taking trips with his wife, Christl, throughout the 50 years they were married.
They would enjoy exploring new areas inside and outside of the country. He also enjoyed playing checkers with his grandchildren and family, as well as gardening, bird watching and feeding the squirrels in the neighborhood. He also enjoyed studying the Bible.
Ron was a doting and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and dedicated barber.
Ron is survived by his wife, Christl Hinton; his daughter, Stephanie Espinola; his son-in-law, Joseph Espinola; his grandson, Joseph Espinola III; his granddaughter, Marissa Espinola, as well as two nieces, two nephews and a cousin.
Ron is preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Edith Hinton; his dad, John Rudolph Hinton; his sister, Valerie Gabrielson; his brother, John Hinton; his brother-in-law, Gordon Gabrielson; and his sister-in-law, Janet Hinton.
Ron will be missed dearly. His family takes great comfort in knowing that he had a very strong faith and he is now at home with his Heavenly Father.
Ron loved children, especially his grandchildren. He always enjoyed seeing and hearing about all of the activities that they were involved in and he was very impressed with the accomplishments of today’s youth.
In honor of his memory and his grandchildren, the family would like to request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Scotts Valley High School, ASB/Student leadership program.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial on 1927 Ocean Street, in Santa Cruz.
