The California Department of Transportation has received many inquiries regarding the emergency repair project on Highway 236-Big Basin Way requiring a full road closure for three to four weeks beginning Monday, June 22.

Our newspapers are filled with stories of horrific cuts impacting schools, libraries, state parks and fire and police services. But the latest reductions to alcohol and drug treatment programs are wholly misguided.

We’ve heard some say that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s plan to close almost all of California’s state parks and beaches is just a negotiating ploy in the eternal budget battle. That had better be the case, because there are more than a few reasons why it could never work.
