The results of a community survey on the viability of a parcel tax to support the Scotts Valley Unified School District will be heard at a special board meeting Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Scotts Valley High School.
School trustees had hired a polling company to ask Scotts Valley voters whether a parcel tax is something the community supports in the wake of more than $2 million in cuts in the past several years, with more to come. The results of the survey will be released Wednesday.
The special meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at high school’s Student Union Building, 555 Glenwood Drive, in Scotts Valley.
Trustees will continue their parcel tax discussion at their regular board meeting, at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at 1 Civic Center Drive. The discussion could include a decision to submit a parcel tax for voter approval in May or June.
If needed, the discussion would continue at a special board meeting Feb. 1.
Special-education parents to be heard by state
Before a review of Scotts Valley’s special-education programs by the California Department of Education, the state is soliciting input from parents of children with special needs.
The Department of Education has scheduled a parent input meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at Scotts Valley High School for special-ed parents to explain their experiences with the district.
The meeting is for parents and advocates of children with special needs who receive or qualify to receive services from the district.
Online input and a survey are also accepted at www4.scoe.net/seeds/.
