San Lorenzo Valley Little League held its annual Opening Day celebration on Saturday, March 10. Highlights of the ceremony included key note speaker Sam Robustelli’s speech and a breathtaking performance of the “Star-Spangled Banner” by sisters Sydney and Naomi Gorham. A-ball player Joshua Rudrow threw the first pitch directly into the glove of San Jose’ Giants’ mascot Gigante’ and one lucky family won four tickets to see the San Francisco Giants play.

A’s 16, Giants 5
The A’s got hot in the second with consecutive hits from Cooper Austin , JJ Jackman, Connor Urbancic, Cash Ebright, Dylan Arroyo, and Max Baxter. They scored four runs
with only one out. The Giants bounced back in the third with a run on Ryan Hodge’s 2-out triple. The A’s Jayden Hunter had three hits on the day including an open-inning triple. He scored on a hit from Nathan Balducci.
Blue Jays 9, Cardinals 6
The Cardinals’ Jackson Parmenter had a two RBI single followed by a double by Matthew Parham to help the Cards to a 4-0 lead in the second. The Jays erupted in the fourth with a
leadoff double from Mikey Kelly and singles from Erika Kindred, Matthew Carney, Brody Cusimano, and Josh Purtscher.

Giants 6, Phillies 3
The giants took the early 5-0 lead and never looked back. Gabe Michaud made it all the way around the bases after crushing a pitch in the second inning.
Majors
Red Sox 3, Pirates 2
The Pirates took the lead in the 4th on an RBI single from Reese Castagna but in the 5th, the Giants Jaden Swanson singled, and later scored on an error while Justin Rudrow and Mark Carling each reached base and scored by stealing home to take the lead.
Giants 9, Diamondbacks 4
Huge 2nd Inning Propels Giants
Kaleb Hedstrom roped a two run double in the second and scored on Vinnie Prograce’s two RBI triple to give the Giants the win.

Diamondbacks 5, Tigers 2
The D’backs scored three in the sixth to break open a 2-2 tie, led by Soren Burns’s single and double and 11 strikeouts in only four innings of pitching. Nick Endres preceded Burns and fanned three in two innings and Jarrett Bare drove in a run on a grounder. Masachika Sato led the Tigers by going 2-for-2 and fanning eight in the first five innings of pitching and teammate Kyle Smith added a single.

Giants 3, Phillies 0
Giants’ starter Garrett Fisher pitched 5.1 innings, allowing only one hit and eight strikeouts, while Carson Spence got the save, fanning the last two batters of the game. Spence singled, walked, and scored, Nathan Pisciotta walked twice and scored and Henry Danner, Conner Wilson and Fisher each singled. For the Phillies, Jack Kastner doubled and Ben Lemus singled.
