Scotts Valley Sgt. Justin Milroy will race against law enforcement colleagues from across the county next weekend to support the Special Olympics in Northern California.
Police in Pursuit will pit law enforcement officers from Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, Capitola and Watsonville police departments, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, California State Parks, UCSC Police Department, Santa Cruz District Attorney’s Office and the Santa Cruz Probation Department.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 11, Milroy had sold the most tickets to the race, giving him first choice of which four-cylinder car to drive on race day. The second-place ticket-seller from each agency will serve as the driver’s pit crew.
Scotts Valley police Lt. John Hohman dreamed up the race as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Then he spread the word to agencies around the county and helped with organization in the area.
“John Hohman has done so much work on it,” said Special Olympics Director Doreen Roth. “He’s really spearheaded the whole thing.”
