I’d like to make my annual plea for the liberal use of sunscreen to protect all of us, young and old from the damaging effects of the sun.

In a Ponzi scheme, someone who claims to be a financial adviser creates the illusion he’s getting high returns for clients. Really, he’s just paying off early investors with money from new ones. He can keep the deception going for years before it collapses, leaving investors burned.

- Clementine Grace Clark was born at 8:39 a.m. May 21, 2012, to Leilan Brittany Dobbins and Travis Malcolm Clark of Boulder Creek. She was delivered at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, where she weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces.

A tree in full bloom is a breathtaking sight. A flowering shrub covered with fragrant blossoms is awe inspiring, too. But it's a spectacular group of plants in a great container that never fails to get my attention.

Soon, the Bethany University Theater will close its doors indefinitely. This is a great loss to Scotts Valley.
