Three of the five Scotts Valley Little League All-Star teams are rolling through their respective District 39 tournaments, while the 7- and 8-year-olds have already won theirs. Four San Lorenzo Valley Little league teams are vying for crowns, too, making the upcoming weekend one to remember.
n Molly Marie Horner was born at 12:25 p.m. June 17, 2011, to Shyra Marie and Andrew Thomas Horner of Scotts Valley. She weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces when she arrived at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.
With the arrival of summer, many of us will be traveling by airplane. Those of us who are older than 50 can remember going in and out of airports free of any type of security measures. Now, to board a plane, we have to nearly disrobe, get patted down and, most recently, pass through full-body scanners that take an image of our body.
The Scotts Valley Bocce Club surprised everyone, including themselves, proving to be a tough contender at the 2011 U.S. National Championships at Campo Di Bocce in Los Gatos. The team took second overall in the national competition that saw teams travel from New York, Texas, Massachusetts and Maine to compete in the annual tournament.
