A core group of seniors on the Scotts Valley High School volleyball team have started the season with a 4-5 overall record, despite a recent 3-1 loss to visiting Mount Madonna on Tuesday night.

Your Health: E-cigarettes can be highly addictive and harmful, too

There’s been much in the news recently about e-cigarettes. The Santa Cruz City Council has just voted to update the city’s tobacco related ordinances which would ban the use of e-cigarettes where smoking is currently restricted and requiring the product to be sold only by vendors with tobacco retail licenses. In early March a local daily newspaper published an article featuring the San Lorenzo River Alliance’s mission of returning the river back to “a community focal point celebrated for its economic development potential, environmental wellness … ”  The success of this plan hinges on cooperation of community-neighbors who share inland waterways and the same values. How about a unified front on plastic bag ordinances?

Let’s go fishin’: Abalone seasons opens with new regulations

April 1 brought a new season to harvest abalone in California. This comes as no April fools joke; the season is serious for sport fishing. There is no commercial harvest allowed for any abalone in California.
