SLV grad signs football scholarship

Nick Johnson, a 2007 San Lorenzo Valley High graduate and two-year starter on the Cabrillo College football team, signed a full-ride scholarship this week to play wide receiver for Division II Henderson State University.

Bechtel catches fire at Dad’s Club

San Lorenzo Valley High junior Blake Bechtel sank five three pointers and scored 39 points in leading the Cougars to the consolation championship over Watsonville, 74-53, in the 54th annual Dad’s Club tournament at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Cruz last weekend.

Outside my window, there’s a feast going on. The gingko trees are clothed in bright yellow leaves, but soon, they will drop every leaf on almost the same day and cover the ground like carpeting. It’s a feast for the eyes.

Guard-friendly Cougars look toward basket

The San Lorenzo Valley varsity boys basketball team opened practice Monday night, Dec. 7, by running more than a dozen suicides — sprints from baseline to free-throw line, half court, the opposite free-throw line and the opposite baseline. In between suicides, the varsity team shot free throws.
