Last year my hubby and I agreed to do away with gifts; gifts that were expected, gifts that television and newspapers tell us we should buy, even gifts for our animals. We are at that stage in life where fortunately we really need nothing. When I put this no gift idea to Hubby Norm instantly a wave of relief spread across his face.

Track and field athletes from San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley high schools showed well enough in Gilroy this past weekend to qualify for the Central Coast Section finals beginning today, May 25 at Gilroy High School.

Both the San Lorenzo Valley High School softball and baseball teams made it past the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs last week, and both teams fell in the second round in tightly contested contests.

On March 9, 225 contestants and 30 volunteers came together to fish, have fun and raise money for Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project at the Sand Crab Classic Perch Tournament.

Gardeners are always on the look out for new plants. I recall when I worked at a nursery looking over the showy dahlia shipment for the one that was a deeper, more vivid shade than all the rest. One color that always gets my attention is chocolate. Whether I find it in the foliage of a plant or the flower itself, it's one of my favorites. You can imagine my delight when I discovered the Chocolate Flower Farm in Langley on Whidbey Island, Wash. while I was visiting the Puget Sound recently. I was a kid in the candy store.
