Ethan Wesley Burke, an 8-pound 15-ounce boy, was born to Heather (Wick) and Peter Burke of Santa Cruz at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was born at 7:32 p.m. on Aug. 23, 2014.

- Owen Michael Gilberg was born at 12:42 p.m. Aug. 23, 2013 to Jennifer Sullivan and Michael Christian Gilberg of Ben Lomond. He weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.

Fishing in Monterey Bay is starting to pick up as sea temperatures rise and fish move toward shore. As spring turns to summer, fishing is getting better — rockfish are more active, and halibut are moving closer to shore. Schools of baitfish also are becoming more frequent along the inshore areas.
