My resident squirrels are busy burying acorns for the winter. On the go from first light in the morning until dusk, they scurry up the oak trees to collect this prized food source and then deposit the acorns in the ground and in the pots on my deck, where they will surely forget where most of them are.

Walking into the store several weeks ago, I was confronted by Halloween paraphernalia: candy, costumes and decorations. I said to myself, hey, it’s still August!

I always say there is no better time to get out and discover wine culture than during harvest. There are only a couple of weeks out of every year when most of the grapes are being picked. In Santa Cruz County, it looks like this time is going to be in the middle of October.
