Resolve to visit a spa in 2016

Each January gives us a wealth of opportunities to improve ourselves. It’s a chance to resolve to become a better person, to treat others kinder, to take care of ourselves, to lose weight, stop smoking, to get our finances in order, to learn a new hobby, to read “Gone With the Wind,” or “War and Peace,” if you are inclined.

The Mountain Gardener: “Ring in the New Year with Gardening Resolutions”

I’m hoping to start 2016 off right. This will be the year when all good intentions pay off in my garden. Since motivation is the key to fruition, I’m going on a limb so to speak and write down my resolutions. I believe simple changes can make a big difference in the garden over time.

Rev. Don W. Munro, Jr. – May 21, 1935 – November 30, 2015

The Rev. Don W. Munro, Jr. died on November 30, 2015 in Santa Cruz. A two-year resident of ScottsValley, he moved to ScottsValley after 48 years of living in Ben Lomond. He was pastor of Felton Presbyterian Church from 1965-85, building that church over two decades into an important community institution. Known for his gentle wit, caring manner, crisp intellect, voracious curiosity and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, he made a difference in the lives of thousands of parishioners, hundreds of couples he married over the years and countless residents of his beloved San LorenzoValley.

Drug arrest in Scotts Valley

In the morning hours of December 25, 2015, the Shell Gas Station located at 90 Mt. Herman Road reported that a man was slumped over the wheel of his vehicle. Scotts Valley Police Department Officers responded to the call.

Roaring Camp Railroad’s steam train malfunction caused accident

Around noon on Monday, December 28, while the train was on the tracks looping around Bear Mountain, it was unable to come to a stop and rolled forward into a dirt hillside. Apparently the train’s throttle was stuck as it was coming to a stop on the tracks during a point of the trip where the vehicles switch to head back in reverse, according to Felton Fire Protection Chief Ron Rickabaugh.

On Saturday, December 5, the Lisa Ann Too, a 1984 Ocean Yacht owned by Scotts Valley residents Joel and Lisa Ann Crivello won first place in their division in the annual Santa Cruz Small Boats Harbor's Christmas parade

Ben Lomond High School Participate in 2015 Santa Cruz Forestry Challenge

PonderosaHigh School and GreenCareersCenter is a vocational training school that focuses on green jobs in Santa CruzCounty. They are operated by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education Alternative Education Department. The school is located at 305 Marion Avenue, in Ben Lomond. The student’s ages range from 15 – 19 years and they are youth who seek education and employment training in ‘green’ careers as they earn credits towards high school graduation.
