More than 500 law enforcement personnel will be running the Special Olympics’ Flame of Hope through Northern California from June 26 through June 28. The event is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, a year round fundraising campaign that will culminate at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer games at UC Davis.
To all of the folks who have dropped by our offices, sent emails or called on the phone to welcome me as the new editor, I want to say “thank you.” I am encouraged by the sense of community shown by the people who read our paper. I have enjoyed seeing the intense determination many have for keeping our home area a place that we can all enjoy.
I’d like to make my annual plea for the liberal use of sunscreen to protect all of us — young and old — from the damaging effects of the sun. Please understand that the “healthy” bronze tan color that many people seek is actually how the skin demonstrates that it has been damaged by the sun.
These policies pay for part or all of the cost of nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and home health care for people who can no longer take care of themselves.
