Cougars’ comeback season ends with CCS loss to Pacific Grove

The San Lorenzo Valley High varsity football team’s resurgent 2014 season came to an end on the south side of Monterey Bay last Friday, as the Pacific Grove High Breakers rode a second-half offensive onslaught to a 37-13 final score over the Cougars in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Local cross country teams headed to State competition

After a second-place finish at the Central Coast Section championships on Nov. 15 in Salinas, the San Lorenzo Valley High girls’ cross country team is headed to Woodward Park in Fresno for the California CIF Cross Country State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Mountain Gardener: Wintry weather means down time for gardeners

‘Twas the weekend after Thanksgiving and all through the house, not a creature was stirring — not even a gardener. I should probably do something productive, but what? Should I be good and do a little light weeding? Maybe I can muster up the energy to plant a few more bulbs. Come spring, I’ll be happy I did. Then again, I could make notes of my gardening successes and not-so-great horticultural decisions. “I know,” I say to myself, “this weekend I’ll revel in what I don’t have to do in the garden”.
