The winter respiratory, cold and flu season is upon us. I have seen quite a spike in visits to urgent care by people suffering from coughs, nasal and sinus congestion, sore throats and generalized achiness. 

- Emma Michelle Robles was born to Lindsey Danielle (Biddle) and Daniel Jason Robles of Boulder Creek at 3:57 p.m. Dec. 23, 2012, at Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center of Santa Cruz. She weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces.

When reflecting upon the state of the city — like the Roman god Janus, for whom January was named — one must look to the future and the past. Scotts Valley is fortunate to have had a good past year, and I know you share my confidence that the upcoming year will be memorable, as well.

Members of the Scotts Valley High wrestling team earned respectable finishes at two recent tournaments and won a match this week to open the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League season.
