Softball continues in the valley
The San Lorenzo Valley IOOF/SLV summer softball season is well under way. In the men’s league, the Flingers have proven themselves by starting the season undefeated while the Mountain Mechanics and Steelheads battle for first place in the Co-ed A league.

Spotlight: Matt Miller
Former Scotts Valley High School wide receiver Matt Miller is heading into his senior season at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The 2007 Falcon alumnus hopes to help his team return to the NCAA division 1-AA football playoffs again this season. Weber State made the playoffs for three years in a row before going 6-5 last season and missing the playoffs by one game.
Let’s go fishin’: Albacore may be on the menu
Warm water is making its way closer to shore, and the highly migratory albacore are soon to follow. Private boats are looking for and commercial fishermen are already landing albacore. Salmon fishing, along with rockfish and halibut, are still providing good inshore action.
