In the early 2000’s distance runners at San Lorenzo Valley High School dominated the sport. The Barrientos sisters (Alejandra and Raquel) swept the distance running titles for girls and Alex Dunn emerged as the boy to beat.

Three of the five Scotts Valley Little League All-Star teams are rolling through their respective District 39 tournaments, while the 7- and 8-year-olds have already won theirs. Four San Lorenzo Valley Little league teams are vying for crowns, too, making the upcoming weekend one to remember.

Feeling blue: Help your garden seem bigger than it is

San Lorenzo Valley High alumni and NFL lineman Andy Levitre caught up with me this weekend in a phone interview.

The Scotts Valley Bocce Club surprised everyone, including themselves, proving to be a tough contender at the 2011 U.S. National Championships at Campo Di Bocce in Los Gatos. The team took second overall in the national competition that saw teams travel from New York, Texas, Massachusetts and Maine to compete in the annual tournament.
