This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing a local Scotts Valley resident who is an amateur winemaker. It’s always interesting to meet other home winemakers, because you can bounce ideas off each other and compare stylistic differences.

Take a tour through the history of natural disasters that have shaped the San Lorenzo Valley.

The weather has been mild, and fishing continues to be fair for both freshwater and saltwater fish. The ocean has drawn most of the local interest, with albacore, halibut and rockfish. Freshwater spots are producing some action on bass and sunfish.

The first Friday night football game at San Lorenzo Valley High on Oct. 16 is a momentous occasion. There is a hubbub of activity around the game — the students at the school are talking about it, the administration is talking about it, and the word has spread like wildfire through the valley.

Many dread the beginning of the school year, as do I, but probably for a very different reason.

When the weather turned warm last week, I got a call from a riding pal who was putting together a short road trip.
