EDITOR,
On Sunday, Aug. 23, there was a car wash on the corner of Mt. Hermon Road and Whispering Pines Drive. This isn’t an unusual event, but this time on every corner of the intersection, young teenage girls — wearing bikini swimsuits — were holding up signs advertising a car wash.
These girls were not washing the cars. The adults were doing that.
This sexualizing of a fundraiser and using minor girls to do so is alarming. Then, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, as I was entering Highway 17, three young girls dressed in shorts and tank tops were holding up a sign for a local business. This time, the girls were swinging their hips, making eye contact with one of the males in the car ahead of me.
There is no knowing who is driving past these girls or what their intentions might be. In an age in which violence toward women and children seems to be growing, we as a community need to protect our youth, not use them as bait.
Please think twice about their safety when you are working with the youth of our community!
