A contingent of Scotts Valley residents, business owners, and city staffers gathered Wednesday morning, March 27, at the bocce ball courts at Skypark to honor Conrad Sudduth, the retired longtime director of the city’s parks and recreation department, with the unveiling of a new park bench.
Funded by the City of Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation Advocates, the bench was dedicated to Sudduth’s 18 years in the post, during which time he was a driving force behind many of the parks — including Skypark — and events the city offers its residents.
“We love Conrad,” said Patti Malone, a group member. “He’s done so much for the parks and for the Advocates.”
Malone said it was fitting that the bench to honor Sudduth’s career was in Skypark, which he’d helped make a reality.
“This is really his park,” she said.
Sudduth, who retired last year, was touched by the gesture and the bench was “just perfect.”
“We’ve wanted a bench there for a long time,” he said.
