The district has started its 2012 volunteer projects. This month native plant enthusiast Lynda Skeff started the restoration of Garrahan Park on Highway 9. Those interested in helping can contact the district.  The next restoration class is from 9 a.m. to noon March 3 at Highlands Park.
Boy Scout Sam Rolfe recently completed a beautifully-crafted bench area in the south corner of Garrahan Park. In another project, the district hopes to complete a goal of selling tiles for the barbecue area. The titles will serve as a fundraiser to purchase outdoor workout equipment along the park’s track.
The district is also preparing for summer events at Junction Park on the corner of Middleton and Junction avenues. There is a flea market from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m. on February 25. These flea markets will continue in to the spring and summer on the second Saturday of the month to help promote the valley-wide second-Saturday sales. There will also be a number of concerts at the park including the July 4 concert and barbecue.
