race thru redwoods

The 44th annual Race Thru the Redwoods will take place in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park on Sunday, Aug. 19. The 10-kilometer run begins at 8:30 a.m.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 15, registration was nearly full for the 700-runner field. No runners can register the day of the race.
The Felton Business Association sponsors the race each year as its biggest fundraiser, according to President Judy Anderson.
“By doing Race Thru the Redwoods, we are able to do our annual tree lighting and make donations to school and church groups,” Anderson said. “It’s really our only fundraiser of the year.”
This year’s course will be the same as years past — the entire race is run inside Henry Cowell park — and the popular 1-mile children’s fun run will take place before the race.
“It brings people from all over,” Anderson said. “It brings people to the valley and encourages them to come back.”
Following the race, Felton Fire District will host a pancake breakfast that is free to runners and $8 for others at the firehouse, 131 Kirby St., in Felton.
The race is organized by Gary Hafley.
