The Rev. Don W. Munro, Jr. died on November 30, 2015 in Santa Cruz. A two-year resident of ScottsValley, he moved to ScottsValley after 48 years of living in Ben Lomond. He was pastor of Felton Presbyterian Church from 1965-85, building that church over two decades into an important community institution. Known for his gentle wit, caring manner, crisp intellect, voracious curiosity and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, he made a difference in the lives of thousands of parishioners, hundreds of couples he married over the years and countless residents of his beloved San LorenzoValley.
Born in Berkeley, he earned degrees from UC Berkeley, Princeton Theological Seminary and San Francisco Theological Seminary. His career began at Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of San Jose. In his retirement he served at First Presbyterian Church of Salinas and, for a change of pace, as a realtor. He was a proud Rotarian.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Dyann; sons Donald of Fresno and David of Scotts Valley; daughter-in-law Kris; son-in-law Shane Moreman; and grandsons Connor and Matthew. A memorial service was held on December 12, 2015 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in ScottsValley. Remembrances can be sent to St. Philip’s or to the Santa Cruz Rotary Club scholarship fund.
