A private memorial will be held for Reva R. Slaughter, who died at her home in Scotts Valley in the company of her immediate family. She was 92.
Mrs. Slaughter was born in Pueblo, Colo., to Margret and Oliver Patterson and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 4. She was a graduate of Compton Union High School.
Mrs. Slaughter married Max Slaughter in July 1938. They lived in Long Beach until they built a home in Woodland Hills in 1948. Mr. Slaughter worked in the plumbing trade, and Mrs. Slaughter was a homemaker, raising their two daughters and working in the community. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting and was known by her family for her desserts.
In 1999, following the death of her husband, Mrs. Slaughter moved to Springs Lakes Park in Scotts Valley to be near family. For 11 years, she was an active member of the Scotts Valley Senior Center, where she enjoyed weekly bingo and poker games, baking homemade cakes for dessert.
Mrs. Slaughter is survived by her daughters, Sandy Payton of Scotts Valley and Kay Amos, and her husband, Bob, of Felton; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, eight siblings and a great-grandson.
A family memorial and scattering of her ashes will be arranged at a later date.
The family suggests that contributions in Mrs. Slaughter’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Santa Cruz, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
