A 76-year-old Davenport pedestrian was killed Dec. 16 after she was struck by a fellow community member’s vehicle at Swanton Road, just east of Pacific Coast Highway.

The incident occurred around 3pm as a 77-year-old male driver, also from Davenport, was reversing a 2002 Ford in a northerly direction on a driveway.

“For an undetermined reason, the Ford backed over the pedestrian as she was standing on the driveway,” said Officer Israel Murillo, of the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Cruz office. “Following the crash, the male driver stopped the Ford and remained on scene until CHP arrival.”

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as causal factors in the collision.

The cause remains under investigation.
