Services will be May 27 for longtime Ben Lomond resident Dick Beardsley, who died at his home April 29 after battling diabetes and leukemia for more than 10 years. He was 73.
Mr. Beardsley was born in Oakland and moved to the San Lorenzo Valley more than 60 years ago.
He was a talented cabinetmaker, and his career in millwork spanned 40 years. Mr. Beardsley took great pride in his work, and his wooden cabinetry is appreciated throughout Santa Cruz County. He worked at Beautiful Wood and later Davenport Mill, leaving many friends and fellow artisans in the woodworking community.
When not at work, family said he loved watching sports and having his family and friends around him. Family said he was a social person who had a quick wit and loved jokes.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Diane Beardsley of Ben Lomond; sons, Donald Beardsley of Ben Lomond, and John Beardsley of San Francisco; brothers Robert Beardsley of Ben Lomond, and Bill Beardsley of Felton; and two grandchildren.
The May 27 memorial celebration will take place at SLV Senior Center, 8500 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond, from 1 to 4 p.m.
A private burial will take place at Felton District Cemetery. The family requests donations in Mr. Beardsley’s name be made to Senior Network Services, 1777-A, Capitola Road, Santa Cruz, CA, 95062.
