Libertarian Republican and physician Richard Fox, is running against Congresswoman Anna Eshoo in this upcoming 2014 election.
Fox is running for congressional office for the first time, with the desire to reform health care and the Affordable Care Act. He has been a practicing pediatrician for more than 35 years and has a medical office in Los Gatos, where he currently resides.
“As a physician, I became concerned about the health care reform issue because, in my view, the Affordable Care Act represents an increase in the amount of regulation of health care and also the cost of health care,” Fox said.
He explained that the vast majority of patients who had to change insurance policies experienced increased premiums.
Much of these price hikes have to do with more regulations that have to be complied with, Fox said.
As a Libertarian, he believes that too much government intervention and involvement hurts ordinary people, and that health care could be reformed in such a way that it is less highly regulated and more affordable for everyone.
“It has become clear that too much government is getting in the way of creating jobs and of people getting good jobs,” Fox said. “And in my view, it is also interfering with the way that people want to educate their children.”
Fox has broadened his focus to include not just health care, but educational and job growth as well.
He went on to say that many parents are not happy with the federal government’s involvement in the public educational system and that the middle- and working-class wages are dwindling.
“My view is that government is getting in the way of things going well and if we reduce the dose of government, things would improve in those areas.”
Most Libertarians, including Fox, believe that the Constitution set up a limited government, and that the current federal government has grown larger than what is needed to run the United States and to promote happiness and prosperity amongst its citizens.
“I think job growth, health care reform, and education would probably be my top priorities followed by privacy…” Fox said. “Libertarians don’t think that the government should be stooping in everyone’s emails and text messages…”
