A graveside service was conducted May 6 in Felton Cemetery for Richard Hirschfeld, a former Scotts Valley resident, who died April 25 at his home in Lake Oswego, Ore. He was 87.
Born to Mervyn and Mary Hirschfeld, Mr. Hirschfeld attended Lowell High School in San Francisco. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and following the war, he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degreee.
During college, he met and married Haroldine Wurtsbaugh. He worked for Fiberboard for a number of years and finished his career at Lockheed as a systems analyst.
Mr. Hirschfeld married Mary Ann Hulter in 1967, and they lived in the San Lorenzo Valley before moving to Yakima, Wash., in 2005. Following her death, Mr. Hirschfeld moved to Lake Oswego to be closer to his children.
Relatives said he loved the outdoors, and the couple spent many summers traveling in their fifth-wheel trailer around the United States.
Mr. Hirschfeld is survived by his son, Kirk Hirschfeld; daughter, Lyn Hirschfeld; stepdaughters, Christine Fowler and Karen Stanley; stepson, Robert Hulter; foster son, Edward Brown; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
