Boulder Creek resident Robert Rex Leoffler, 72, died July 2 from complications from renal disease, diabetes and heart disease.
He was born in Denver in 1940, and as a child, moved frequently with his family all over the country as his father followed employment as a water and sewer pipeline technician until 1949.
He lived in Avenal between 1949 and 1955 before moving to Bakersfield. He married Judy Stevenson in 1959, and the young couple moved to San Jose in 1961.
After graduating from San Jose State University in 1964, Mr. Leoffler was employed at W.H. Ebert Construction for more than 30 years in San Jose. He became a resident of Boulder Creek in 1963.
As part of the Boulder Creek community, he was a member of the West Valley Sportsman club, San Lorenzo Valley Museum, St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Operating Engineers, Local 3.
His passions included country music, barbecuing with friends, his pets and spending time at his cabin in Tehachapi and his home in Kona, Hawaii.
Mr. Leoffler is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Leoffler; two sons, Anthony Leoffler of Arizona and Michael Leoffler, and his wife, Jackie, of Boulder Creek; and a sister, Valaria Leoffler, and brother-in-law, Doug Hellinger, of Santa Cruz.
He was preceded in death by another sister, Jane Sasman.
A celebration of Mr. Leoffler’s life will be planned at a later date, following burial in Stratton, Colo.
