Santa Cruz County sent a strike team on Thursday to the Camp Fire in Butte County. Five engines were sent with a leader and an assistant leader. The agencies participating are Scotts Valley, Branciforte, Santa Cruz, Central and Aptos/La Selva. The Strike Team leader is from Central and the Assistant Leader is from Aptos/La Selva. Four people are assigned to each engine.
The Camp Fire ignited on Thursday morning, and by nightfall, has decimated at least 70,000 acres, according to Cal Fire officials. Five people are also confirmed dead.
As of their last evening update, Cal Fire estimates as many as 15,000 structures are threatened. Already, families have been evacuated in Paradise, Magalia, Concow, Butte Creek Canyon and Butte Valley. Forest Ranch is also under an evacuation warning.
The fire started at about 6:30 a.m., in the area of Pulga Road at Camp Creek Road, near Jarbo Gap.
Three firefighters have been reportedly injured, but the extent of their injuries are unknown. There have been no fatalities, but officials are investigating reports of fatalities.
