This past weekend, 32 teams from across the Bay Area—including Santa Cruz County—competed in the annual Bytheal Ratliff’s Blast By The Bay fastpitch tournament, hosted by the Cabrillo Gals Softball League.

The event took place at Anna Jean Cummins Park and Soquel High School, drawing significant attention and participation from the softball community.

Among the competitors were three local competitive youth fastpitch teams: the Cabrillo Crushers, Scotts Valley Trouble and San Lorenzo Valley Girls Softball’s Mountain Dream. These teams have long been integral to the community, contributing to the tournament’s status as a cherished staple in the youth fastpitch softball scene for decades.

The Cabrillo Crushers’ 12UB team secured first place in their division, continuing their streak of excellence. Scotts Valley Trouble’s 10UC team also clinched first place in their division, showcasing their competitive spirit. Not to be outdone, the Mountain Dream 8UC team triumphed in their division, claiming the top spot as well.

This year’s tournament was a resounding success for all three local teams, highlighting the strength and dedication of Santa Cruz County’s competitive fastpitch programs. As the summer season winds down, all three programs are gearing up for their fall seasons, with tryouts scheduled in the coming weeks.
