Santa Cruz County is preparing for a significant storm system expected to bring several inches of rain over the next week, with the potential for localized flooding, hazardous travel conditions and power outages.

Residents are urged to prepare now, particularly as holiday travel increases, including signing up for local emergency alerts at CruzAware.org. Drivers should slow down, allow extra time, and never drive through standing or moving water. The County is coordinating closely with local, state, federal and utility partners to monitor conditions and respond to storm impacts as they occur.

“This storm has the potential to be impactful,” said David Reid, Director of the Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery and Resilience (OR3). “Now is the time for residents to prepare themselves and their families—have a plan, build an emergency kit, and stay informed. Taking simple steps ahead of time can make a significant difference during and after a storm.”

The most significant rainfall and winds are expected Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Power outages and travel disruptions are possible. The public is encouraged to stay informed through local media and County communication channels and to use the following resources:

Early preparation can help reduce risk to people, property and critical services. For ongoing updates, residents should follow Santa Cruz County social media channels and trusted local news sources.
