Much of the back section of the Kings Village Shopping Center will be abuzz on Saturday, Oct. 25, as art aficionados, craft connoisseurs, and libation lovers are invited to participate in Scotts Valley Artisans’ annual Halloween Sidewalk Festival and Auction.
Designed as the primary source of raising funds for the Scotts Valley-based nonprofit, the festival will feature displays by dozens of local artists, a Halloween costume contest, live and silent auctions, as well as wine and whiskey tasting.
According to Dawn Teall, the organization’s founder, the funds raised from the auction sales will be used to finance the classes and programs that are offered to the residents of Scotts Valley and the greater Santa Cruz County, such as the Mural-In-A-Day events.
“This is our most important fundraiser for the Regional Artists’ Association,” Teall said. “We’re trying to grow the artists’ community in Santa Cruz County.”
The silent auction, she said, will include items contributed from the approximately 150 local artists whose artwork is on display at Scotts Valley Artisans.
Among the items up for bidding are paintings, wood crafts, an all-inclusive vacation to Cancun, and a near-life size sculpture of a carousel horse created by artist Jan Raynes.
A live auction, Teall said, would also be held at the event and will feature items created by young artists in the organization’s summer art program.
“You can get original art for amounts that would stun you,” she said.
In addition to Scotts Valley Artisans’ display gallery, the organization’s neighbors — Jesse Gabriel Photography, Choi’s Tae Kwon Do, and Bruno’s Barbecue — will be opening their doors as well to host displays of locally produced art.
“It’s co-hosted by the entire back of this shopping center,” said Teall.
At the event, local chocolatier Ashby Confections will be on-hand to offer candy sampling, and 37th Parallel winery will be pouring examples of locally produced wines.
For those who wish to support local artists as well as the San Francisco Giants, Teall said, the Game 4 of the World Series will be on multiple screens at multiple locations.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free to the community. Scotts Valley Artisans is located at 230 Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley.
